We are considering this book,a retrospective of Ferran Freixa's work, a unique blend of formalist and subjective documentaryism. His global architectural photography captures both exterior spaces and interior environments from a distinct perspective. With a markedly formalist style, he presents each place, even if it does not have one, as a symmetrical reality, where each object is in its place, placed, without leaving the marked area. Even when human figures appear, they serve to enlarge the spaces in a way that is uniquely Freixa. Each of Freixa's photographs, rendered in black and white, is a masterclass in the use of light and shadow to accentuate the object or architecture being captured. The resulting images often resemble postcards, with a striking visual impact. Freixa's work creates an extraordinary pictorial atmosphere that places the subject, be it a building or an archaeological monument, on a pedestal. Even in the face of tragedy, such as the fire at the Liceo theater, Freixa's photographs, some of the only color photos in his collection, manage to find and highlight the aesthetics of misfortune. Magnific book, amazing photographer
